During the 1950s, the US Atomic Energy Commission and US Air Force conducted a study on the global health effects of fallout from nuclear weapons testing. In particular, the AEC was curious about Strontium-90, which is able to compete with calcium uptake into bone; this basically means that Strontium-90 could accumulate at high levels in skeletal tissue. In this process, the Atomic Energy Commission secretly collected over 1,500 samples from babies' and young children's cadavers from around the globe without consent...the Atomic Energy Commission and other elements in US intelligence essentially snatched bodies. This project, known as Project SUNSHINE, was declassified in 1959, although the exact methods by which the AEC gained tissue samples remain murky to this day. Priject Sunshine Wikipedia entry
