Elon Musk gives me a little bit of hope that humanity hasn't doomed itself through sheer stupidity. The Tesla electric car, his push for solar power and his innovation in reusable rocket technology are all things that we need to take steps into the future. Clean energy and affordable space travel are things that we need, in order to survive as a species and Musk is one of the only entrepreneurs out there today who is trying to innovate and create a bright future. Most of the people with money to invest, have done nothing but reinforce the monopolies that have existed for decades or centuries. Monopolies whose existence depends on us staying dependant on them for their own survival. Corporate monopolies whose survival is dooming us as a species. Enslaving humanity instead of inspiring it to greatness.
Musk is also going to play a key role in getting us to Mars. His reusable rocket technology would cut the costs of getting men and materials into space by 100x. NASA projected a manned mission to Mars would cost 100 billion dollars. The Mars-one project says they could do it for 6 billion. With reusable rockets they would be able to shrink those costs significantly and make our dreams of spreading to a new frontier much easier to attain.
